Saribung Pass Trekking 26 Days

Saribung peak climbing is newly popular trekking peak in Mid Western of Nepal. The height of Mt.Saribung Peak is (6,328 m) which lies in just north east from Lo-Manthang near to border of Nepal and Tibet. It is challenging and popular trekking trail with beaten track and difficult pass (6,346m) in the himalaya of Damodar Himal ranges. Saribung Pass trek is located in remote parts of Mustang region of Damodar Himal, close to the border of China (Tibet). The trails are rugged, cutting high into cliff sides and pass villages that have changed little over the centuries.

Saribung Pass Trekking can be done in anti-clockwise for which the trek start from Phu and then ascend to Saribung pass and enter in the Mustang "Hidden Valley" and return to Jomsom or clockwise for which the trek start from Jomsom and follow Upper Mustang trail and descend to Nar-Phu valley and end at Besisahar. For mountaineering, it is easy to do Expedition but there are many passes with ice and creases in between the Damodar Kunda region and Nar-Phu valley. The trek starts from one place to another with great sceneries, cultures, religion and geographical variations. Hence trekkers can enjoy the fantastic and picturesque views of diversity in this region.

The Mustang Saribung Peak trek follows the off-the-beaten tracks to one of the remotest and hidden valleys of Nepal Himalayas enjoying the company of barren landscapes of Kaligandaki Valley, enchanting views of Annapurna, Nilgiri, Dhaulagiri Himalayas, and the very much primitive human settlements of Upper Mustang region. Day 1: Arrival at Kathmandu

You after then will be escorted to the luxurious hotel where you will be provided a welcome cuisine and you will overnight stay there.

Day 2: Sightseeing around Kathmandu Valley
Today after having breakfast we will take you to the most admired sightseeing areas of Kathmandu which is proud as well as pride of Nepalese people. You will relish an ancient treasure Basantapur Durbar Square, Patan Durbar Square, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa and  Swayambhunath Stupa which reflects the local culture and tradition of Nepalese society. We will take you back to the hotel where you will spend overnight.

Day 3: Kathmandu - Pokhara Drive: 5 - 6 hrs
The morning scenic bus drive departs for one of the popular and natural landmarks of Nepal – the lake city of Pokhara. The journey will be accompanied by greeneries and mid hill villages in between. Apart from tremendous lakes, Pokhara is also popular for trekking junction as the lake city unfolds different trekking routes in the Annapurna region. In Pokhara you make a short sightseeing tour of famous landmarks of Pokhara with your guide. Overnight in Pokhara.

Day 4: Pokhara - Jomsom Flight & Jomsom - Kagbeni Trek (2,800m): 3 - 4 hrs
After landing in Jomsom, the real trek begins. Passing through the trail of Kaligandaki valley, the trekking route connects you with Lubra where you visit at Bon-Po monastery. The next section of the trail links you with Eklebatti from where you will be connected with Kagbeni. Kagbeni is famous for 1000 years old the red-painted Gompa. Overnight at Kagbeni.

Day 5: Kagbeni - Tsaile (3,100m): 5 - 6 hrs                    
Walking over the bank of Kaligandaki River and enjoying beautiful landscapes of the region, the route at first connects you with Tangbe village. In between the trail you will encounter the Buddhist Chhörtens and Maniwalls. Then one hour`s journey brings you at Chhusang village. After departing the village, you will again trek over the bank of Kaligandaki River. In the track at this section, you can see 16 caves above the tunnel of Kaligandaki River. Then, the trail goes steep upward to connect you Tsaile – a small village with a incredible view of Nilgiri Himal and the Kaligandaki River. Overnight at Tsaile.

Day 6: Tsaile - Ghiling (3,570m): 6 - 7 hrs
The trek today at first passes through an unstable trail to reach at Samar village. Then the journey moves toward the Chungsi cave monastery. The location of the monastery is so unbelievable that its environment is enough to impart a feeling of spirituality into the mind and hearts of travelers. The next section of the trail leads you to a monastery where Guru Padmasambhava meditated in 8th century. From this site your journey advances forth to reach at Syangmochen Village. From the village the trail ahead links you with Ghiling – a small village where you can see a big Chhörten and two Gompas. Overnight at Ghiling.

Day 7:  Ghiling - Tsarang (3,560m): 6 - 7 hrs
This section of the trip at first passing through Zaite Village and Nyi-La Pass (4,020m) brings you at the centre of Mustang. Then the journey leaves for Ghami village. From the village you will be connected with a small stream on the trail and walking in the stream you can view the longest Mani Wall of the Mustang region which painted with vertical stripes of white, red and black. Then the mountain trail again takes a long steep ascent to a small pass and then descends to Tsarang village.The village welcomes you with a huge Chhorten in its entrance and then entering into the village you can stroll around an Old Palace and Tsarang Gompa. Overnight at Tsarang.

Day 8: Tsarang - Lo-Manthang (3,840m): 7- 8 hrs
Today, you depart for Lo-Manthang following the Upper Trail of the area which will allow you to explore the Lo-Gyakar-Ghar Gompa. The Gompa is one of the oldest Gompas in Upper Mustang region built by Guru Padmasambhava - the founder of Tibetan Buddhism in the 8th century. After exploring Ghar Gompa, your trail paves the way towards the Chogo-La Pass (4,230m). Crossing the pass, you will head towards Lo-Manthang - the ancient wall city of Mustang. Lo-Manthang was the walled capital of the Kingdom of Lo since its founding in 1380 where you can observe many of the still-standing structures of the ancient city. The northern part of the wall city culturally and linguistically resembles with Tibetan and it occupies two-thirds of Mustang District. Whereas the southern part of the ancient city is inhabited by Thakali people who have different language and culture than the northern dwellers. Overnight at Lo-Manthang.

Day 9: Lo-Manthang - Yara (3,900m): 6 - 7 hrs
The journey today in the company of sights of innumerable caves at the stone walls on the trail at first reaches at Dhi Village and then it will descends down to a small stream from where the trail climbs up to reach at Yara Village. Overnight at Yara. 

Day 10: Yara - Luri: 3 - 4 hrs
It will be the day for reaching at the site of two cave monasteries on the trail. Fist you will visit at Luri Cave Monastery (4,005m) - the oldest and most famous cave monastery in the Mustang region which was constructed in the 15th century. Inside the cave you can see a big Old Chhorten, a highly sacred religious text and many images and statues of Protectors and Deities. Then, there is another monastery situated below of Luri Cave Monastery. You even visit there.  Overnight at Luri.

Day 11: Luri - Ghuma Thanti (4,600m): 5 - 6 hrs
The fantastic trek today walks through hilltop to hilltop in the green pastures of the area. While following the hilltop to hilltop trail, you come across a wide grassy plateau offering wonderful views of Mount Dhaulagiri. Then the continuous mountain trail climbs up to a pass at 4,940m and descends towards Ghuma Thanti - a place built for sheltering the Buddhist pilgrims going to the sacred Damodar Kunda. Overnight at Ghuma Thanti.

Day 12: Ghuma Thanti - Namta Khola (4890m): 7 - 8 hrs
The mountain trail today initially reaches to a pass at 5,320 meters from where you can have fantastic views of the Dhaulagiri and the Annapurna I. Then, the trail makes a steep descent to the bottom of the Parche khola. In the third place, you climb up a long steep slope. Next section of the trail again makes a long crossing from hilltop to hilltop till to reach a pass at 5,490 meter. The high pass offers you the fantastic views of Mt. Dhaulagiri and Damodar Himal. From the high pass onward the trail brings you at the sacred site of Damodar Kunda in the yard of Damodar Himal. After observing a small holy Hindu shrine and a very old Buddhist Chorten, the journey moves forth towards Namta Khola. Overnight at Namta Khola.

Day 13: Namta Khola - Saribung Base Camp (4,950m): 6 - 7 hrs
It will be the day to reach at Saribung Base Camp. The mountain trail through a high altitude route and the landscapes that resemble like the Tibetan Plateau connects you with Saribung Base Camp. Overnight at Base Camp.

Day 14: Acclimatization
You have walked enough in the remote mountain trails of Mustang region. Hence, it will be the best day for a proper acclimatization. The acclimatization day helps you prepare for the further climbing journey. You can either take a complete rest or engage yourself on exploring the surrounding hills of the Saribung Base Camp. Overnight at Base Camp.
Day 15: Saribung Base Camp - Camp (5,730m): 5 - 6 hrs
Your journey of the day passes through the moraines of en route glacier and even crosses hard snowy trail on the route. Your journey today goes along with the views of the Khumjunggar Himal (6,959m), and the Damodar Himal. Overnight at Camp.

Day 16:  Camp - Saribung Peak (6,346m) - Base Camp (4,950m): 8 - 9 hrs
Today, you will reach to the summit of Saribung peak – the tallest point of this trip. Since, the tough section of the trip begins early in the morning and starts to climb the summit of Saribung peak. The top of the peak rewards you incomparable scenery of Gyajikang, Himlung, Bhrikuti Himalayas. After enjoying the excellent views from the top, you will descend down to Saribung Base Camp. Overnight at Base Camp.

Day 17: Base Camp - Saribung Pass (6,042m) - Nagoru (4,400m)
Form the base camp the trek today moves froth to cross the Saribung pass. From the pass the snowy trail steeply descends down till to reach a small stream on the trail. Next section of the trail following through a stream connects  you with Nagoru. Overnight at Nagoru.

Day 18: Nagoru - Phu Gaon (4,080m): 5 - 6 hrs
It will be another great day for you. The journey passing through like a Tibetan resembling plateau in the company of fantastic views of barren valley and snowy peaks reaches to Phu Gaon – the exact site of Lost or Hidden Valley. In the valley you can explore the culture, natural diversity, and religious practices of the ethnic groups like Lama, Gurung and Ghale. Apart from this, you can find out how people make their survival depending on agriculture, animal breeding and seasonal migrations in such remote location of Nepal Himalayas. Furthermore, you can find yourself engaged on discovering the landmark of Hidden Valley. The must see landmark of the lost valley include: the Tashi Lakhang Monastery - the very old Buddhist Monastery listed out of the 108 world`s great Buddhist Monasteries. The valley also offers a great view of Himlung Himal and other snow peaks in the region. Overnight at Phu Gaon.

Day 19: Phu Gaon - Meta (3,560m): 5 - 6 hrs
In this part of the trip, the trail at first descends down to Kyang. Kyang offer you the sites like the ruined forts of the Khampa Settlement. Jhunam, Chyakhu and Kyang are such places where Khampa refugees from Tibet once suffered. Observing these ruined sites, your journey continues till to reach Meta. In between the trail you can enjoys the very impressive view of Annapurna II and Lamjung Himal. Overnight at Meta.

Day 20: Meta - Koto (2,600m): 6 - 7 hrs
The trip of the day at first goes through a steep downward trail and then walks through a pine forest. In between you come across many suspension bridges over numerous small streams. At a point on the trail you will also reach at a charming water fall near Dharmashala. Overnight at Koto.

Day 21: Koto - Dharapani (1,860m): 5 - 6 hrs
Initially, the journey today passes through the small villages till to reach at Timang in the company of Pine forest on the trail. In trekking ahead, the journey will be accompanied by a short glimpse of Mount Manaslu and other snowy peaks. In the next place, the trail steeply drops down to Danque from where you pass through the level trail till to reach Dharapani.  Overnight at Dharapani.

Day 22: Dharapani - Jagat (1,300m): 5 - 6 hrs
It will be day of crossing and re-crossing many suspension bridges over Marsyangdi River while trekking through the trail of Marsyangdi River bank. The continuous river bank treks brings you at first at Kotro and then the journey reaches at the Tal village. From the village, you follow a rocky track till to reach the river and again the trail climbs up through a dense forest area to reach at Chyamje. While travelling ahead, the trail eventually connects you with Jagat Village. Overnight at Jagat.

Day 23: Jagat - Bulbhule (840m): 5 - 6 hrs
The rocky trail today initially descends down to Syange from where the journey moves forth along the Marsyangdi River till to reach Bulbhule. From Bulbhule, your mountain journey ends and you prepare for bus drive towards Kathmandu. Overnight at Bulbhule.

Day 24: Bulbhule - Kathmandu: 6 - 7 hrs
The trip of the day reconnects you with Kathmandu. The bus journey in the morning passes alongside the Marsyangdi River which will results into Bsesi Sahar. Form Bsesi Sahar passing through the cultivated terraces, forest, and green hills in the company of majestic sights of Manaslu, Ganesh, and the Annapuran Himalaya range, the scenic drive brings you in Kathmandu. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 25: Rest day in Kathmandu
A day of rest and relaxation, you can go for shopping and sightseeing. After breakfast we will drive to Kathmandu Durbar Square. After Kathmandu Durbar Square we will be visiting Swoyambhunath Stupa. Swoyambhunath is believed to have been established more than 2,500 years ago. Swoyambhunath has developed into an important center of Buddhism. Our next destination is Patan Durbar square after then we will proceed for sightseeing tour to Great Stupa of Boudhanath. In the evening we will have fare well dinner together at an Authentic Nepalese restaurant.

Day 26: Departure
Our splendid journey in Nepal abolishes here and we will convoy you to the airport according to your scheduled flight and bid you farewell.
