Gosaikunda pass trekking also known as Gosainkunda or Gosain Kunda is an alpine freshwater lake in the mountainous region of Rasuwa District of Langtang National Park. This high altitude trekking destination in Nepal is revered as a holy place by the Hindus as the place where Lord Shiva and Goddess Gauri reside. Apart from being a pilgrimage, Gosaikunda is also a popular trail among trekking enthusiasts as it is a connecting route from the Langtang Valley trek to the Helambu region. Also, there is no need to carry any camping gears as there are teahouses along the trail which provide warm bedding and delicious local meals after a tiring day of trekking.
The journey starts with a drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi which takes around 8 hours. Further, you will witness dense rhododendron forests with plenty of bird species and hike along the gorges of the river to the higher elevations of the glaciers. Ascending beyond the forests, you can have a view of Langtang Lirung, Gaurishanker, and Dorje Lakpa peaks with an insight into the Rolwaling and Annapurna mountain ranges. The rich Langtang national park is also home to several wild animals and birds like mountain tahr, langur monkeys, jackals, rare red pandas, and snow leopards.
After exploring the holy lake of Gosaikunda, you will have to trek through the pass of Gosaikunda (4610 m) and descend to the Helambu region. From there, you can have a panoramic view of the Himalayas while wandering through Tibetan monasteries and traditional villages of Tharepati, Tarkeghyang, and Sermathang inhabited by indigenous Tamang people. Finally, the trail winds down to Melamchi Pul Bazaar from where you can return to Kathmandu by private vehicle or bus. All the complicated arrangements required for the Gosaikunda trekking tour are managed by the experts at Earth Matter Treks & Expedition Pvt. Ltd.
